Organizer and Member Contact Policy

Inquiries about Setting Up Events

If you have a performance organization and wish us to have an event at your performance, we must insist that you contact the organizer two to three weeks in advance.  In addition, we would appreciate providing discounted tickets for our members.  Keep in mind that the calendar for this group is planned in advance even though it is not all posted in advance so if you have a limited calendar of performances there may be a conflict.

Above all, do not contact us the day before your proffered performance.  These are not Meetup groups that are planned on a last-minute basis.

Inquiries about Our Members

It is a reasonable assumption that the New York Opera Meetup has professional musicians and singers among its members. The British Film and Television Group may have film professionals.

We welcome them with open arms.

If you are a concert promoter, artist agent, or cinema professional and wish to contact any of our members you must do so directly. It is against policy for a group organizer to give out contact information on any member. We recommend that you join the group and meet with them in person at an event. If that opportunity does not present itself in a timely manner, you may attempt to contact them through Meetup's messaging system.

Just as Meetup does not provide organizers with personal e-mail addresses or other similar information on its members, it also permits its members to limit their communications within Meetup. If there is no response to your communication attempt, this may be the reason for it.

Please understand that this policy is in the interests of our members' privacy and protection.

Outdoor Event Cancellation Policy -- All Groups

Outdoor (usually free) events posted for these groups are usually subject to cancellation in the event of adverse weather conditions. A few will have a contingency plan in the event of rain, but many do not and will not have rain dates. Event notices will have a link posted to this page and information relevant to the specific venue will be included. The following list of known venue/event practices will be revised as necessary: City Parks Events in city parks are subject to cancellation by the Parks Department. Historically, the Parks Department cancels an event about three hours prior to a performance start time. This will be posted on the website of the park hosting the event. A link will be posted to the relevant park's website to allow members to check if there is cause for concern. Washington Square Music Festival This organization has a contingency plan with alternative locations for their concerts in the event of rain. These locations will be provided to members ...

Met Opera Plaza Screenings -- Free!

Sundays at the Met with the World

The Metropolitan Opera has long been overdue for Sunday matinées. While Peter Gelb is anticipating new audiences it is my belief that – like the HD broadcasts – it will be also favored by growth among current audiences: Suburbanites. Many suburbanites worry about being able to catch the last train to Scarsdale or Sag Harbor after late curtains on weeknights. This was why the performance start time was moved back to 7:30 a few seasons ago. However, 30-minute intermissions (presumably to enable more business for the bars and the gift shop) have eaten up much of the difference; curtain calls have not been correspondingly earlier, especially for longer works. Presenting works such as Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg on Sunday afternoons will work very well. Families. If the Met will use this opportunity to present “family-friendly” titles Mr Gelb can anticipate more children who will eventually become adult opera lovers. Working Adults. More of this ...
